The three scrapbooks contain clippings, letters and programs regarding various events of Messick's tenure as president, such as college anniversaries, and the construction of various buildings, including Christenbury Memorial Gymnasium, E.G. Flanagan Memorial Sylvan Theater, Whichard music building, and buildings named for Paul E. Jones and Edwin E. Rawl. Clippings address such topics as how East Carolina College could be of service to the citizens of eastern North Carolina through courses such as adult education, taught by Annie May Murray, the increasing college enrollment, and the need for more student housing. Also included are newspaper clippings concerning ground breaking for North Carolina Wesleyan College. Clippings have been removed from the books and stored in boxes. Photographs have been removed and can be found in the photograph collection.
